Like Family: Growing Up in Other People's Houses

Summary: Paula and her two sisters are abandoned by her mother when she goes to the movies and never returns. They are shuffled around foster care homes as wards of California.

Takeaways: Not a self-pitying memoir; rather, the author seems to answer the childhood questions she’s been grappling with her whole life. The author uses a bit too much descriptive language for my taste, so I chose to listen to the audiobook. An interesting book club selection that led to deep discussion.
