If Beale Street Could Talk


Summary: Tish and Fonny are a match made in heaven, but a few things get in the way of that: a rude mother-in-law, racist realtors, and a crime that lands Fonny in jail.


Takeaways: Set in Harlem in the 1970s, it’s difficult to imagine the additional hardships of people of color only 50 years ago. Sadly, these issues are still prevalent. This movie does a beautiful job painting a picture of what was and what is.
